Passive House products

Certified wood systems, built and supported in Canada.

Fenstür is North America’s first and Canada’s only manufacturer of Certified Passive House wood windows and doors, with all-wood and wood-aluminum-clad options supported from early energy modelling through final product coordination.

Two exterior expressions

Every product. All wood or wood-aluminum clad.

Both begin with the same engineered timber structure and the same warm, genuine-wood interior. The choice is about exterior expression, exposure, maintenance and budget.

Compare materials + finishes
01

All wood

Real wood is visible inside and outside. It offers the fullest natural-material expression and typically the lower initial cost.

  • Best for protected or thoughtfully detailed elevations
  • Maximum species, stain and paint flexibility
  • Exterior finish needs periodic inspection and care
02

Wood-aluminum clad

A ventilated, powder-coated aluminum skin protects the exterior while the full warmth of timber remains visible inside.

  • Ideal for high exposure and lower-maintenance goals
  • Broad exterior colour selection
  • Higher initial investment for added weather protection
01

Verified performance

PHI-certified and modelled configurations provide the frame, glass, spacer and whole-window information needed for Passive House, net-zero and Step Code 5 work.

02

Design flexibility

The certified product scope includes tilt-and-turn windows, picture windows, entry doors and tilt-and-turn doors without giving up the warmth of real wood.

03

Early collaboration

Sizing, glass, solar gain, operability and installation details are reviewed while they can still improve the building model.

04

North American delivery

Canadian manufacturing, NAFS and NFRC documentation, direct service and Fenstür-coordinated delivery reduce the uncertainty of importing a distant European package.

05

Material-conscious construction

Documented wood-system options can support Living Building Challenge material goals while preserving the performance, durability and natural interior character of a substantial timber frame.

Case study · The Green Point Project

One high-performance home, several coordinated opening types.

The Green Point Project brings together aluminum-clad tilt-and-turn windows, a custom red front entry door, picture windows and a lift-and-slide opening. The result shows how high-performance detailing can support natural timber interiors, broad views and a strong architectural identity.

02

Certified scope

More than one certified opening type.

Fenstür’s certified product family includes tilt-and-turn and picture windows plus high-performance door systems. Fenstür is also one of three manufacturers worldwide with a Passive House-certified wood-aluminum-clad entry door, and the only one in North America.

  • Entire tilt-and-turn window system certified for design flexibility
  • Certified fixed picture-window configurations
  • Three certified wooden door systems
  • Wood and wood-aluminum-clad certified options
03

106 mm system

Cork insulation inside a substantial timber frame.

The 106 mm series uses over 4⅛ inches of engineered timber and is normally paired with thick triple-pane low-e glass. In documented Passive House configurations, cork insulation is incorporated in the solid wood frame to improve thermal performance while maintaining slim sightlines and real-wood interiors.

  • Two continuous gaskets support air- and water-tightness
  • Multipoint locking controlled by one handle
  • Anti-sag support for large or heavy sashes
  • Profile-changing technology increases glass area and strength
  • Cork-insulated window and door options
04

Why wood

The logical material for responsible high-performance building.

Passive House should be about responsible building—not only low heating demand. Responsibly sourced wood is local, renewable, recyclable, repairable and supported by an ethical, transparent supply chain. It stores carbon, can be maintained rather than discarded and connects long-term performance with natural-material stewardship. Other frame materials may meet an energy target, but when they are energy-intensive, disposable or difficult to repair, they conflict with the broader philosophy Passive House is meant to advance.

05

Why Fenstür

Performance is a project conversation—not a glass upgrade.

Passive House design depends on the complete opening: frame, sash, glass, spacer, installation position, air-barrier continuity, shading and orientation. Fenstür helps the project team coordinate those decisions rather than treating the window schedule in isolation.

06

A trusted local partner

European-inspired performance without an overseas handoff.

Fenstür combines advanced European window technology with Canadian manufacturing, North American testing and direct support from the people building the product. That means clearer communication, practical shipping and easier follow-through when a project detail changes.

  • Project-specific glass and solar-gain review
  • Support for architects, builders and energy advisors
  • Custom sizing without standard-size surcharges
  • Locally and domestically sourced wood species
  • Solid laminated timber with no exposed finger joints
  • Living Building Challenge-compliant product options
  • Fenstür-truck delivery for suitable regional projects
  • Delivery throughout Canada and the United States
07

Specify early

Bring the model and the openings together before tender.

Early review allows the team to balance operable area, frame fraction, views, egress, structural limits, solar gain and budget while there is still room to improve the package.

Frequently asked

Useful answers before you begin.

Does every Fenstür product automatically meet Passive House requirements?

No. Performance changes with system, size, operation and glass. Use a certified or project-modelled configuration and confirm the current whole-window data for the exact package.

Are Fenstür casement windows Passive House certified?

No. Fenstür casement windows are not part of the current Passive House-certified product scope. The certified product types are tilt-and-turn windows, picture windows, entry doors and tilt-and-turn doors, subject to the applicable certificate and configuration limits.

Can Passive House products be all wood?

Fenstür products are available in all-wood and wood-aluminum-clad construction. The project team should confirm which documented configuration provides the required certification or modelled values.
