Two exterior expressions

Every product. All wood or wood-aluminum clad.

Both begin with the same engineered timber structure and the same warm, genuine-wood interior. The choice is about exterior expression, exposure, maintenance and budget.

Compare materials + finishes
01

All wood

Real wood is visible inside and outside. It offers the fullest natural-material expression and typically the lower initial cost.

  • Best for protected or thoughtfully detailed elevations
  • Maximum species, stain and paint flexibility
  • Exterior finish needs periodic inspection and care
02

Wood-aluminum clad

A ventilated, powder-coated aluminum skin protects the exterior while the full warmth of timber remains visible inside.

  • Ideal for high exposure and lower-maintenance goals
  • Broad exterior colour selection
  • Higher initial investment for added weather protection
01

Engineered timber

Solid laminated components are used across windows and doors to improve stability, strength and predictable movement while preserving real-wood surfaces.

02

Species + grain

Douglas fir, hemlock, true firs, cedar, oak, maple, alder, walnut and specialty species can be selected around colour, grain and availability.

03

Standard finishes

No Paint, Clear Coat, UV, Ebony, Walnut, Douglas, White and Black form the standard starting palette.

04

Custom matching

Fenstür can match an approved customer paint or stain sample, including split interior and exterior appearances where the system allows.

05

Factory finishing

A controlled, multi-stage coating process protects edges, joints and concealed surfaces before glass and hardware are installed.

Wood species

Natural variation is part of the material.

Fenstür builds with domestic and specialty species selected around grain, colour, finish and availability. Laminated engineered components are used throughout the product range for stability, strength and more predictable movement.

Wood varies naturally in colour, grain and figure. Final selections are confirmed with current physical samples.

Standard colour options

A starting palette, not a limit.

These screen swatches are illustrative. Wood species, grain, sheen and display settings change appearance, so approved physical samples govern the final finish.

Standard natural + stained finishes

These finishes retain the character of the wood. Species and grain change the final colour, so an approved physical sample governs.

01

Engineered wood

Real wood, made more stable for demanding openings.

Fenstür uses solid laminated timber components throughout its window and door systems. Laminating selected pieces improves strength, stability and resistance to movement while preserving the warmth, grain and repairability of genuine wood.

  • No exposed finger joints on visible finished faces
  • Engineered for large glass and high-capacity hardware
  • Species and lamination selected around the product and finish
  • Used across window, swinging-door and lift-and-slide systems
02

Why wood

A structural frame material that can be repaired, refinished and customized.

Compared with PVC or vinyl frames, engineered timber offers the rigidity needed for large openings and heavy high-performance glass, along with the ability to repair or refinish the visible surface over time. It also gives architects far more freedom in species, profile, shape and colour.

  • Strong, rigid support for large glass and triple-pane units
  • Repairable and refinishable rather than automatically replaced
  • Custom profiles, shapes, species, stains and paint colours
  • Naturally insulating material with a warm interior surface
  • Renewable material when responsibly sourced
03

All wood

Warmth on both sides of the opening.

All-wood construction preserves the natural material inside and out. Species, exposure, detailing, finish colour and maintenance expectations should be considered together.

04

Wood-aluminum

Real wood inside. A protective metal skin outside.

A separated, ventilated aluminum skin protects the timber from sun, rain, wind and dirt while leaving the full character of wood visible inside. The cavity behind the cladding helps incidental moisture dry and limits direct thermal bridging.

  • Powder-coated in a broad range of custom colours
  • Extreme-duty powder coating for demanding environments
  • Anodized and selected wood-grain appearances available
  • Clean, sharp contemporary exterior sightlines
  • Interior species and finish remain fully customizable
05

Factory finishing

Protection applied before the product is assembled.

Preservatives, sealers, stains and paints are applied in a controlled environment, including areas that become difficult to access after glazing and hardware installation.

  • 01 · Preservative impregnation
  • 02 · Stain or primer for colour and UV protection
  • 03 · Grain sealer for a smooth, controlled base
  • 04 · Sprayed protective topcoat

Frequently asked

Useful answers before you begin.

Why choose an engineered wood frame instead of vinyl or PVC?

Wood is chosen for architectural authenticity, natural warmth and design freedom that vinyl cannot fully reproduce. Its strength supports slim profiles, large openings and heavy glass, while its natural insulating qualities help limit heat transfer through the frame. Wood can be painted or stained to coordinate with interiors, cabinetry and historic architecture—and refinished when tastes change. With regular inspection and proper finish maintenance, a well-made wood window can last for decades and damaged surfaces can often be repaired rather than replaced. For highly exposed elevations or lower-maintenance priorities, Fenstür also offers wood-aluminum-clad construction: real wood inside with a durable protective exterior.

Can Fenstür match existing cabinetry or millwork?

Custom colour and stain matching is available. Because wood species, grain and light affect the result, physical samples and an approval process are recommended.

Is clear finish recommended outside?

Transparent exterior finishes benefit from some pigment because it improves UV protection. Exposure and maintenance expectations should be reviewed before selecting a fully clear exterior.
