Manufacturing

Precision at scale. Attention at every handoff.

Fenstür builds world-class windows and doors with modern technology, modern standards and a Vancouver Island factory equipped with tools and machinery that would make many European manufacturers envious.

01

01 / Material preparation

Timber is selected from slow-grown sources, dried, laminated and graded for straight grain, heartwood, appearance, stability and the demands of the component.

02

02 / Machining

Computer-controlled tooling creates smooth surfaces, strong joinery, sloped exterior details, drained glass cavities and precise hardware preparation.

03

03 / Assembly + finishing

Skilled makers assemble frames and sashes before protective finishes are applied under controlled conditions.

04

04 / Hardware, glass + QC

Hardware and glass are installed, operation is adjusted, and the completed item is inspected before packaging.

Inside the Duncan factory

See the process from material preparation to finished product.

Follow the timber through machining, assembly, factory finishing, glazing and inspection—and see where modern equipment and skilled hands each shape the final opening.

01

Material intelligence

Wood is variable. The process cannot be.

Every board has grain, colour and movement of its own. Fenstür selects dense, straight-grained timber from cold, wet climates and grades it for a high proportion of heartwood. Lamination, moisture control and component selection help turn that natural variation into a stable architectural product while reducing knots and pitch bleed.

02

Modern machining

Complex geometry, repeated accurately.

Advanced machinery makes sophisticated profiles, drainage paths, gasket channels and hardware preparation possible while producing the smooth surfaces and tight joinery that high-performance finishing demands.

  • Slightly sloped horizontal details discourage standing water
  • Drained and ventilated glass cavities help protect the glazing edge
  • Multiple continuous gaskets support air- and water-tightness
  • Smooth machined surfaces improve joint and finish quality
03

Human judgment

The last millimetre still belongs to skilled hands.

Assembly, sanding, finishing, hardware adjustment, glazing and inspection all require people who understand how the material should look, feel and operate.

04

Factory finishing

Protection is part of manufacturing.

Fenstür applies its multi-stage coating system before glass and hardware are installed, giving preservatives, end-grain sealers and industrial topcoats access to the areas that matter most. Rounded edges help the coating build and adhere more consistently than it can on a sharp corner.

  • End-grain protection at window bottoms and vulnerable joints
  • Rounded edges improve coating coverage and adhesion
  • Factory application reaches surfaces concealed after assembly
  • Industrial water-based coatings simplify future maintenance
05

Proven milestones

Performance verified beyond the factory.

In 2018, Fenstür became North America’s first manufacturer of Passive House-certified wood windows and doors. Fenstür was also the first company in Canada to pass a NAFS test for a lift-and-slide door.

  • Passive House-certified wood window and door systems
  • NAFS-tested window, door and lift-and-slide configurations
  • ¾-inch Climatech fiberglass threshold in the tested lift-and-slide system
  • Large custom openings reviewed around hardware, glass and engineering limits
